Bill Mitchell

Bill Mitchell's work is based on density: the complexity, fertility and beauty of nature as witnessed on the Art Farm site, especially in spring and summer.

Several interrelated pieces form a collective whole in which the sense of propagation is transmogrified into the fertile human form. At first glance, there appears to be a profusion of flowers, yet these flowers are inserted into an equally potent form that at a distance is hidden. With closer examination, the discovery of the underlying form juxtaposed with the floral creates a moment of illumination that is the quintessence of this section of the work.

Density and complexity are key: density in the sense of the composite whole, and complexity in the sense of variables, permutations and polarities.

'My work is a visceral response to the richness, fertility, and bountifulness of the land, transformed into human form. Although the work can be disturbing, it is not always intended to be such. My work is about beauty and adversity, aesthetics and perplexity - it embraces those dichotomies. Both sides, the polarities, bring depth, but I'm looking for a resolution.'
