Rod Clark

'The more I come here, the more I enjoy it - the people, the atmosphere of the place - this is an old farm, the area is old, there's sense of historical tranquility in the valley.'

Rod Clark describes his work as not abstract but atmospheric, aiming to capture the mood of a place and the people within it. In response to the Art Farm Project, Rod has produced a series of etchings, drypoints, collagraphs and paintings in watercolour and oils that relates to the buildings and environment of Middle Rocombe Farm. Seeking to encapsulate the textures of the farm and the forms of the buildings, one collagraph has been made from bric-a-brac picked up in the working areas immediately surrounding the main farmhouse. Others are made from discarded materials used by some of the other exhibiting artists. Producing art for over 40 years, Rod almost always carries out his work in situ, whatever the weather. To further explore the interconnections between the artists on the Project, he has visited the farm most weekends to sketch and document the process of creating the Art Farm. His sketchbooks both inform the finished works and serve as an absorbing record of work in progress.
